Many people think of seafood when they imagine a trip to Hokkaido, but meat dishes are well worth trying too.
The place Muto recommends is NORTH HILL in Barato. The cut steak is especially good, and above all, the location is wonderful. The restaurant sits right beside the Barato River, where you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed riverside atmosphere that feels completely different from downtown Sapporo.
Rather than coming only for the food, we hope you will make the trip out to Barato and enjoy the atmosphere of the place as well.
Nearby is Chateraise Gateaux Kingdom Sapporo, a resort hotel with pools and hot springs. If you are staying there, heading out a little further to NORTH HILL for dinner makes a great combination.
Even though it is away from the central sightseeing areas, going by taxi means you can enjoy your meal at your own pace without worrying about the trip there and back.

If you are heading toward Shiraoi, we hope you will enjoy not just the food, but also the atmosphere you can only find there.
The place Muto recommends is Kita no Lamp-tei in Takeura, Shiraoi. It is a charcoal-grill restaurant on National Route 36, where you grill Hokkaido seafood and local meat such as Shiraoi beef yourself over charcoal.
The food is of course good, but above all, the location is wonderful. You can see the Pacific Ocean from inside the restaurant and enjoy your meal while taking in a view and air that feel truly Hokkaido.
Shiraoi is home to Upopoy (National Ainu Museum and Park), Kojohama Onsen is close to the restaurant, and Noboribetsu lies a little further on. It fits easily into a day trip from Sapporo toward Shiraoi and Noboribetsu.
The restaurant is a long walk from the nearest station, so if you are visiting several sights along the way, a private charter taxi is the easiest way to get around.
