An uninhabited, nature-rich island floating at the center of Lake Toya. Rising to the south of Lake Toya, Mt. Usu is an active volcano that continues to show activity today. Showa-shinzan, a relatively young mountain born from a 1944 eruption, still emits steam and offers a rare chance to observe its growth process up close.
