Lake Shikotsu is a caldera lake located in Hokkaido, Japan. It is located in the southwestern part of Hokkaido, near the city of Sapporo, and belongs to the Ishikari Promotion Bureau. Lake Shikotsu is known for its high transparency and is one of the most beautiful lakes in Japan. It is also the second deepest lake in Japan after Lake Tazawa, reaching more than 360 meters at its deepest point.

Lake Shikotsu is famous for its ice resistance and is known as a “non-freezing lake” that does not freeze even in winter. This is due to the depth of the lake and the influence of geothermal heat, which ensures that the water temperature remains above a certain level even during the cold winter months.

The area around Lake Shikotsu is designated as Shikotsu-Toya National Park and is a tourist destination blessed with natural beauty. There are hot springs and campgrounds on the lakeside, and you can enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, canoeing, and hiking. In addition, there is a hot spring town on the lakeside, and there are plenty of day-trip hot springs and accommodations.
